X-Message-Number: 27248 Date: Wed, 19 Oct 2005 22:42:35 -0700 (PDT) From: Jeff Davis <> Subject: Responses to Request for info re cost factors of cryonics Cryonetters, I want to thank all those who took the time to respond to my request for a breakdown of the various cost factors of a cryonic suspension. In my reply to Jordan Sparks I neglected to take note of his suggestion: "Get more people signed up so that there is a storage facility in every large city." With which I wholeheartedly agree, pointing out several advantages, some of which might be: economies of scale, reduced transport cost, and improved response times. **************************** Dr. Ettinger replied that cryostat space is a one time expense of $4000 per patient, and $100 per patient per year for LN2 replenishment. This $100 comes presumably from ROI of principle from the original suspension fee; however, I'm not clear on the assumed ROI rate -- 5% ?, 4% ?, 3% ? -- and I couldn't find it on the CI web site, so I'm unable to assign the amount of principle necessary to generate this $100 per year. ***************************** Brian Wowk provided me with two links: http://www.alcor.org/Library/html/CostOfCryonics.html and http://www.alcor.org/Library/html/CostOfCryonicsTables.txt the second of which was precisely the sort of detailed cost breakdown I was looking for -- thank you, Brian. Note to others who may look at these docs: their date is 1990, and per Brian's recommendation all the dollar amounts should be doubled -- inflation -- to bring them up to date. However, there was no mention of M22. Could I possibly get you to post the cost per unit, and units per suspension, of that vital cryoprotectant component? ******************************** Again, thanks to everyone. Best, Jeff Davis "My guess is that people don't yet realize how "handy" an indefinite lifespan will be."
