X-Message-Number: 27261 Date: Sun, 23 Oct 2005 09:31:00 -0400 From: Thomas Donaldson <> Subject: I hope this makes my problem clear Hi to everyone, once more: Perhaps I didn't make my message as clear as it should have been, so here I go again: The main problem with cryonics storage facilities far away from cities is NOT any problem with the site or the physical facilities at such a site. The main problem comes from the simple facts that 1. Nobody wants to live far away from anyone else indefinitely 2. Any cryonics storage site requires that there be people watching there for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It may even be that some people will happily take up 1), though so far as I know no one has shown serious interest in doing so AND has been a cryonicist. If any of the 3 people so far proposing this scheme in one or another form would also be happy to manage such a site themselves, that would be good (and surprise me too). Why does a cryonics storage site need someone there constantly? Think of nuclear reactors, intercontinental missile sites, and any other setting in which if something went wrong and wasn't immediately fixed, we'd have a VERY large problem. I will point out that in such sites, a lot of thought has gone into the problem of fixing it up so nothing can go wrong --- but someone is there because of the possibility that something was forgotten or simply not imagined when all the protections were put there. And if anything a cryonics storage site needs a level of protection similar to that of a nuclear reactor. That's why nobody is really interested in places far away from everyone. Best wishes and long long life for all, Thomas Donaldson Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=27261
