Recently Alcor performed a suspension under very trying circumstances: circumstances that would have been a challenge to anyone anywhere at any time. I became aware of the suspension and a FEW of the inescapable logistic and technical problems that accompanied it. I offered any help I could and made a number of suggestions both technical and logistic which may or may not have been of use. When I was appraised of the situation Alcor seemed to be doing the best it could to deal with the situation at that point. My help was NOT asked for and may even have been annoying or counterproductive, although I hope this was not so. I post this message because I was astonished to hear that a member of another cryonics organization was calling Alcor members and indicating that an individual or individuals on the Alcor suspension team "had to call Mike Darwin for help during Alcor's last suspension." Here I feel it proper and just to drop all pretense of tact and good breeding and just say bluntly: "That is a complete LIE and total load of shit." But I will go further (this time with some measure of tact of and good breeding) and make the following points (especially to the person or person(s) involved in distributing this kind of untruth: 1) Unless you were a party to this case or have your facts straight, don't run your mouth off about things you know less than nothing about. 2) Such nasty communications serve no purpose except to make a difficult situation WORSE. The break is over. WHAT EXACTLY do you expect to gain by protracted nastiness? Do you think this will win you any members? You're dreaming if you do -- and take it from one who knows -- it will turn out to be a nightmare. 3) There are many good, hard-working, sincere and talented people at Alcor. I believe that some of these people feel at least part of the same way about me. It would be really nice if we could get past the crap and poltics and deal with each other, even if it's on little practical things like sharing costs on supplies and sharing information that will help ALL of us. 4) You (and you and I BOTH know who you are) have done nothing to help further this situation. In fact, I will go so far as to say that you have CERTAINLY shot yourself in the foot since making the staff and management at Alcor angry and disrespectful of you and your cryonics organization (not to mention me) can serve NO useful purpose and in fact makes MY job (which incidentally includes doing a good job of freezing YOU should the need arise) that much more difficult and costly. 5) I am in business. You are screwing with my business. I do NOT appreciate that one little bit. By making it more difficult to deal with Alcor you raise my costs and reduce my access to useful information (and vice versa for Alcor, which incidentally, doesn't help YOUR friends and loved ones who are still signed up with or in storage at Alcor either). So cut the crap, OK? That is really all I have to say. Anyone with any questions should call Alcor at 800-367-2228. Mike Darwin Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=2749
