Subject: 212'th update on fly longevity experiments

This is the 212'th update of my fly longevity experiments. Average
temperature was 23.7 C during this run. Estimated maximal longevity using
 the formula (363 - T*11.2) is 98 days.
Both cantalope and honeydew melons increased survival in run #113,
and are retested here. Liver and skim milk cheese are also tested since
they are dietary sources of vitamin K2.
Cantalope, but not honeydew consistently increased maximum survival
in this run. The previous positive result with honeydew is now regarded
as a chance finding. Cantalope has the ability to protect against
oxidative stress via a superoxide dismutase. (Phytotherapy Research
 2004;18:957-962)
High dosages of vitamin K1 offered an advantage in run #193. However
previous tests of dietary sources of K1 such as kale (run #103) were
negative, possibly because the K1 content was too low. Vitamin K2 is not
available without a prescription in Canada, so some dietary sources were
 here tested, with negative results.
