I don't see how they can extrapolate a 3 to 6 month study to decades of
extra life.

Fairly simple - in the absence of anything proving otherwise, the simplest
and easiest solution tends to be best and right :o) If you consider body as
a machine, nothing more, nothing else, you do not need extra oil and fuel to
drive. Extra oil will burn up and clog up your engine, extra gas amount will
be too heavy and slow you car down thus decreasing your gas mileage.

The previous and current research on rhesus monkeys - a rather long and
extended study, as well as many examples of mice and rats as far as "severe"
calorie restriction (30-40%) is extremely promising, rather logical and
simple to understand. I saw a graph somewhere that at 30-40% restriction the
life expectancy of mice/rats went up significantly 20-30% while at 50%
caloric restriction it decreased. So the magic # is 30-40% in the little
critters. Rhesus monkeys had a very similar results as far as longevity and
less diseases.

You get more crap into yourself, the body works harder to get rid of it,
doesn't have enough resources to do so, breaks down the food not completely
that cannot be used by the body into radicals, DNA is changed by extra
radicals created - not good mutations, you age earlier. Very simplistic
explanation of the very complex issue that is beyond "Average Joe's"
comprehension including me :o)

The question is not whether you find it hard to believe, but rather WHY IT'S
HAPPENING and is it LOGICAL based on the current scientific knowledge?
