The geological and fossil record provides evidence for five major extinctions:
  1.. Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction ~ 65 million years ago 
  2.. End Triassic extinction ~ 200 million years ago 
  3.. Permian-Triassic extinction ~ 251 million years ago 
  4.. Late Devonian extinction ~ 364 million years ago 
  5.. Ordovician-Silurian extinction ~ 439 million years ago

Later, Havelock, contradicting himself, states" Without extinctions, sometimes 
mass extinctions, there would be no evolution."
