The air and water is cleaner today than it was 10 years ago, and it was cleaner 10 years than it was 20. I really don't see a problem in that direction unless politicians decide to impoverish the world by adopting idiotic things like the Kyoto environmental treaty. >the world's three richest people are worth more than the >combined resources of 36 of the world's countries. Then three cheers for the 3 richest people, I wish them well. The basic problem is not that we are dividing the pie up unfairly, the basic problem is that the pie is too small. To bring the average world living standard up to the level of Portugal, the poorest country in western Europe, the total amount of wealth on planet Earth would have to quadruple. And if you want more wealth embrace free markets. >Wouldn't we do better directing our concern towards the >looming >environmental catastrophies and the current social >catastrophies that are >a result of economic (rather than IQ) >monopoly? No it would not be better. I believe it is pointless to try to solve problems that will not reach their peak until more than about 15 years from now; beyond that point we will have only a hazy idea what the problems really are and people in the future will have a far greater ability to solve these problems than we do. I get very impatient when environmental kooks say we should impoverish ourselves now to help people a century from now. The people of 1906 had no way of knowing what our problems are and even if they did no way to solve them. John K Clark Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=28024
