Xilinx has started to roll out a new FPGA generation, the Virtex 5 familly. These are the first chips with 65 nm technology, it seems FPGAs are now a step in advance if we look at "ordinary" microprocessors from Intel or AMD. The largest CMOS imaging chip on the market has 16 millions pixels, the retina has 120 millions sensitive cells. Biology seems so only 3 generations from current electronics devices. Yvan Bozzonetti.
