Eastern Daylight Time, writes: This section of the Act does not prohibit funeral directors in BC from performing preparation and transport services related to a cryonic arrangement assuming that these services are in compliance with provincial health regulations (www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/reg/H/Health/4_83.htm#part4) and human remains transfer regulations (www.qp.gov.bc.ca/statreg/reg/C/298_2004.htm). To be clear, should a consumer wish their remains to be preserved using cryonics, a BC funeral provider is not prohibited from performing any related services such as preparation and transport, as per the Cremation, Interment & Funeral Services Act regulations. Presumably an Alcor Transport team or a Suspended Animation team could conduct Standby under the authority of a British Columbia funeral director. I believe that this law is only going to be changed by a challenge in (Skipping copying of rest of BC regs...) Ben... Thank you and others for your proactive stance on this important issue. I happen to be working with a British Columbia prospect/client at this time. It is no secret that regulators and "religious nut jobs" pose a significant threat to the cryonics as well as the extreme life extension movements. While our best interest may be served in staying quietly "under the radar" for at least a while in some instances, there are times when activism is called for. We cannot cede activism and political proactivity to a well entrenched, highly funded group that for lack of better name we shall call the "religious right." Your leadership and creativity is appreciated in this matter. While not perfect, the above is at least a start toward a "workable" regulation for BC cryonics assistance. On behalf of the cryonics community, and people whose lives may be saved in BC, we thank you for your successful efforts.
