Which are?

I don't remember anyone mentioning the border war between Eritrea and
Ethiopia and the various other wars in Africa - Sudan, Congo, Rwanda,
etc. - when they happen. Or Chechnya and Russia. Or conflicts that are
intra-national, intermittent, even unarmed - drug wars, corporate
immorality, government corruption, class privation, child and aged
abuse, etc.

The deaths of millions in politico-business, ethnic, and religious
wars, or the slow deaths of social strife don't seem to be the main
subject people come to Cryonet for.

This is fine, as it provides a predictable channel of information and
discussion - you know you're mainly going to get cryonics related news
and opinion (with occasional frets over SkyNet or H.A.L., or
libertarian demagoguery).

That said, it would be interesting to be more informed as to who
cryonicists are, what is motivating cryonicists, and what values are
held amongst us.

Obviously we need to understand our political world as much as we do
cryobiology. Not all of us are capable of that kind of science ;) but
we can all learn from discussion. Old J. S. Mill said "There must be
discussion, to show how experience is to be interpreted. Wrong
opinions and practices gradually yield to fact and argument: but facts
and arguments, to produce any effect on the mind, must be brought
before it. Very few facts are able to tell their own story, without
comments to bring out their meaning. The whole strength and value,
then, of human judgment, depending on the one property, that it can be
set right when it is wrong, reliance can be placed on it only when the
means of setting it right are kept constantly at hand: The steady
habit of correcting and completing his own opinion by collating it
with those of others."

Bearing that in mind, I'll take a look at your "cold filter" to see
what fellow cryonicists are saying about non-cryonics issues. Thanks
for taking the time to set it up.

Anthony
