Eastern Standard Time, writes: On wealth in the future for cryo patients, and on reanimation of patients. I have thought long and hard about two such matters with regards to my reanimation from cryostasis in the future, and for having sufficient resources to deal with a new life. I first go by the maxim "If you fail to plan, you plan to fail" "Dr. Schuler's maxim" as far as plans for the Cryonic Institute to make a protocol for reanimation of our patients. I believe that above maxim has a lot of force and is relevant to getting new membership for CI since I am asked that question constantly. I think CI needs an answer at CI and at Alcor for that very question. If we say we have and are investing in research to do so for a protocol of reanimation, it permits CI and Alcor of course to appear professional. If we say we don't have any idea what the future will be like, we are begging the question and not answering this question to anyone's satisfaction. For that reason I support a limited research for an eventual reanimation protocol. Second area is that of resources. My second maxim is that "Poverty Sucks (end copy of Jack Nixon post, Rudi Hoffman writing.) I thought the above observations by Jack Nixon, as well as the part of the post not copied, made good sense. I.e. it correlates with basic economic principals unlikely to vanish in shorter time frames than those measured by mere centuries. Even in an age of mature nanotechnology, it would seem to me that there will still be a relative range of values and some form of commerce. It may be possible that even among the more rational among us, there exists the tendency toward "magical thinking." Many of my fellow cryonicists may have given up some of the "useful myths" of our culture, but they have substituted rather dubious claims that "Nanotech and the Singularity will so change everything that money, power, influence, human nature will immediately become obsolete." Even if we both have a machine on our desk that can print out toasters and artificial hearts and extra penises, doesn't it stand to reason that it will take TIME and EXPERTISE to optimize your experience with this technology? (What if I want extra vaginas instead?...but no...this "Biosynth 3000" by Microsoft is still "Buggy"!) Does it make sense that the level of expertise to optimize your life experience may involve some value for value transaction? Current medical technology has the ability to do remarkable things like kidney, heart, and organ transplants. Plastic surgery can enhance us, dental technology can give us perfect teeth. Orthomolecular medicine and nutriceuticals can, according to double blind placebo controlled studies improve our performance. But, what do all of these have in common? They all take TIME, MONEY, and SPECIALTY EXPERTISE! A personal observation...I would love to take advantage of a number of these opportunities...but I don't have the RESOURCES! These technologies are AVAILIBLE...they are just not equally and universally available for "free." Welcome to "Economics 101" I suggest the Nanotech and AGI Fairies will not magically fix us all. But they MAY be able to fix SOME of us who are doing the hard work of figuring out how to be genuinely WEALTHY in our long term future. Wealthy and wise cryonicists are VITAL to fund the research to make cryonics resuscitation a reality. As I write these words, only a few people in the whole world are funding general cryonics research. That is sad, and unacceptable. Sorry if this offensive, but you may have noticed that life and the universe does not bother to live up to human standards of "fairness." Unequal distribution of resources is a current fact of life...and likely to remain so until we are pure software or energy...and perhaps even then. This may sound harsh, but to think that the basic principals of economics like "unequal distribution of resources" are going to go away is just naive. The good news is there IS a magic that is real. The magic leverage of life insurance can not only fund your SUSPENSION. It can create huge amounts of tax free wealth. These amounts can be distributed in multiple trusts, in different venues with multiple trustees. These can be structured to help ENABLE your resuscitation! The patient care trusts of CI and ALCOR are collective...and certainly may not be sufficient. I am still working out details, but I will soon be announcing the next GREAT BREAKTHROUGH in cryonics funding. It will be REAL magic...the kind that emerges from a foundation built on principles that have endured for centuries and are likely to continue to endure...even through the Singularity and beyond. Good news is on the way...We are going to find a way to put granite solid funding under our castles and fairy houses, and make the promise of physical immortality a realistic possibility. I am proud to be in this epic adventure with you... When future generations look back at this time...which they will call "The Age of Death"...they will say, "Those pioneers who saw the future were brilliant, courageous visionaries...I wish I could have been there at the dawning of the next great leap for humanity." We ARE here...with the excitement of an future we can build together.
