There is a point in responding to the clueless a few times, sometimes they 
are only ignorant and benefit from instruction and sometimes going over 
basics is useful for the silent lurkers.

But after a few exchanges you can spot dishonest trolls when it becomes 
clear they are just after responses and don't (for example) read the 
literature you point them too.  Having no idea of common concepts like 
genetic drift is another.
