Subject: Selling cryonics?
Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2006 20:08:58 +0800

Francois asked:
<One of the most vexing problems in cryonics is the difficulties encountered
when trying to sell the concept to ordinary citizens. Has anyone ever
thought of enlisting the services of a marketing firm to solve that problem?
. . . Perhaps this has been suggested in the past and rejected for some
reason. I can think of at least one reason myself, namely the cost of hiring
such a firm.>

Yes, it has been tried and it doesn't work. If it just had been money, we
would have found a way around it. After all, each new member brings in a
sign-up fee and it could be self-perpetuating. The real problem is that we
aren't selling a product; we are selling an idea. That's a lot harder.
Another problem is that cryonics should not be too commercial. We have
tried that path before and it was tragic.

Marta
