Making artificial intelligence has proven far more difficult than anticipated and I believe we will eventually have to base any successful AI on the structure of our own brains. Humans and Machines will merge into a new entity, Mind enormously amplified by the speed, resilience and accuracy of the Machine. Yes, humans as we know them will probably vanish when the Singularity occurs, but they won't simply go extinct. They will instead enter a new mode of existence, one we can scarcely imagine, just like an amoeba could never imagine the sort of world humans live in today.
