This is Rudi Hoffman from Florida. Cryonet has had some great threads lately. I thought the posting re: marketing cryonics, with the rather well written concise discussion of mental linkages, was solid and on point. (Was this Fred Moulton?) Related to cryonics marketing, the link above is, I think, a positive take on cryonics. Dave Pizer, Tanya Jones, and (if I may say so modestly) myself come across reasonably credibly. The questions and the editing are well done, IMO. (We all know that editing can make us look like geniuses or buffoons with the same raw footage. I am a fan of the Daily Show, where there is some really hilarious editing.) Since I probably would not have a chance to see the final edited news show without the link, I appreciate Mark Plus providing it. Please, folks, may I ask again, if you get your "15 minutes of fame" and a chance to talk about cryonics publicly, would you do the following? When the cost issue comes up, emphasize that the vast majority (The stats are better than 94%) of the people who fund cryonics do this through the simple effective leverage of life insurance. This bit of memetic engineering is truly vital to greater mainstream acceptance of cryonics. There is enough resistance to this idea without adding the false and pernicious myth that "cryonics is only for the mega-rich," which is a widespread misperception among the masses. We should not underestimate the power of envy that lurks as a core motivating factor in the world. With a basic foundational philosophy of free market capitalism, and being a reasonably well adjusted and successful person, I am amazed (and embarrassed) at how I personally am occasionally plagued with envy. I recognize this in myself as hypocritical, counterproductive, and downright silly. But it is there...so I think it helps to be aware of this in ourselves and others. Here endeth this particular rant...one that is close to my heart. Don't forget to attend, if you can, the May Suspended Animation conference and the October Alcor conference. Even if you can't go to one or another, helping promote these promising conferences is another thing we can do for the good of cryonics.
