X-Message-Number: 29266 Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2007 20:39:22 -0500 (EST) From: Charles Platt <> Subject: selling Jeff Davis suggests that I would be the last person likely to, or capable of, bringing people into cryonics. Actually Jeff I created what I believe was the single most successful PR initiative in cryonics history. (Of course that was before I became old and jaded.) Among the people who apparently have been influenced to sign up because of text that I wrote are Joe Waynick and Rudi Hoffman. Aschwin de Wolf ended up working at Suspended Animation in Florida either because of or in spite of me, and I believe I may have influenced Todd Huffman's decision to relocate in Arizona (he has since been an important participant in many cryonics cases). Also I seem to recall that someone paid $100,000 cash in advance for a membership, supposedly because he simply read the Alcor web site, much of which consisted of my writing at that time. What you may not realize, Jeff, is that skepticism can be reassuring to people who are making up their minds about cryonics. Conversely, gung-ho positivism can seem unpleasantly similar to the kind of thing you find in a cult. Now, tell me, how many of those millions of supposedly prime candidates have _you_ encouraged to become members, let alone activists?
