I'm not alone in having a healthy skepticism of resveratrol as an elixir of youth, but I also recognize that there are times when gambling, even with inadequate information, is a rational strategy. [Though it's a bit depressing to see the results of some of Kurzweil's suggestions, when evaluated in careful trials.] Are the folks who are experimenting on themselves taking data to measure improvements (or not) in health indicators like weight, blood pressure, IQ, etc.? Obviously this isn't a double-blind study, but dramatic results should show up fairly quickly. Is there any information on whether the magical effects require the chemical to be maintained in the blood, versus an occasional shot? Take a pill every hour, or once a month? If the mechanism is tinkering with stem cell aging, I'd expect to see more cancers accompanying any overall anti-aging effect. Who's counting?
