If we start really soon, a date in the 2020 decade is possible for power 
satellites.  But if we get power satellites (which are really tapping a 
fusion source) I can't see any reason to use fusion.

Both fission and fusion have an mostly unrecognized problem in that running 
a solution of U 238 through the neutron flux and sorting out the plutonium 
should make incredibly pure Pu 239.
