Subject: CRYONICS at WorldCon (ConAdian)

From Thursday, September 1 to Monday, September 5, 1994 the annual
World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon, ConAdian) will be held in
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Cryonics should have a presence at this
WorldCon exceeding that in earlier years.

Last year, in San Francisco, we had a Cryonics Room Party for one
evening and there was a panel on cryonics consisting of Ralph Merkle
and 3 non-cryonicists. This year, in Winnipeg, there will be a Cryonics
Room Party on 4 evenings, 2 panels are scheduled, and I will have a
table in the Dealer's Room for selling and distributing cryonics
literature.

One of the scheduled panels is entitled "Cryonics: Time Capsule to
the Future?". On this panel should be me (Ben Best), Steve Bridge,
Brian Wowk, and Paul Wakfer. Brenda Peters may also be on the
panel, but she has not yet decided if she will attend ConAdian. Steve
Bridge has requested that if Brenda appears on the panel that she wear
a bag on her head so that she doesn't draw attention away from him. I
have suggested that a much larger bag may be necessary for that purpose.

Another panel deals with the subject of Cryonics and Death. I have
no idea who scheduled this panel or who is expected to be on it. Another
panel deals with life extension and its consequences.

As of the beginning of July, 4,250 people had registered for
WorldCon. This means that attendance will likely exceed 5,000 and could
even reach 6,000. I am very enthusiastic about the WorldCons I have
attended in the past. Many very technically competent, educated and
creative people attend these events to speculate, to feast their
imaginations -- and to play! WorldCons are not simply large science
fiction conventions, there is a qualitative difference to them as well
as a quantitative one. Even if only 5 or 10% of those who attend are
rational enough to consider cryonics, that still amounts to hundreds of
people!
