I had the impression from some varieties of leftist propaganda that we 
should celebrate these people for "living lightly upon the earth."

BTW, about this whole matter of "doomsaying": If your accountant audits your 
books, and then predicts you face bankruptcy, do you dismiss him as a 
"doomsayer"? Or do you instead study the facts, and try to change the 
behavior that has caused the problem?

Regarding Peak Oil, for example, in about a week BP (you know, the major oil 
company that advertises itself now as "Beyond Petroleum," soon to change to 
"Bicycles, Please") releases a key collection of data about the oil supply 
system, its annual Statistical Review of World Energy. I suspect it will 
reveal disturbing news about the growth of the world's oil production.
