X-Message-Number: 29582 From: "John de Rivaz" <> Subject: Electric aeroplane concept described Date: Thu, 21 Jun 2007 12:19:28 +0100 The use of the stick rather than the carrot to get cryonicists to concentrate near a facility has frequently relied on argument about governmental interference with the freedom for people to move about their planet. Terrorism is one reason this is happening, but worries about the environment is another. http://www.physorg.com:80/news101391900.html describes an aircraft that uses liquid hydrogen to run a fuel cell that provides electricity to a superconducting engine that is also kept cold by the liquid hydrogen. (I am not sure but doubt that superconducting motors generate heat that has to be removed, rather they just need to be kept cold.) Liquid hydrogen is hardly a safe fuel, but the concept does illustrate that solutions are being considered and that one is likely to appear before everyone is grounded. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=29582
