At the moment this Institute is nothing but a talk shop, according to the video. 'True' AI has been just around the corner for about 50 years now, and there is no evidence that a 'breakthru' is going to happen anytime soon. I am not referring to any technical problems, but the entire approach. The field of AI was created by Computer Scientists so they could get their own pot of money separate from that given to psychologists/neurologist who were already studying the problem. There is little evidence that this has accomplished much, except the promotion of some peoples' careers at the expense of others. The whole concept of the 'singularity' is based in science fiction, not science fact. The promoters of this effort want to make sure that a 'friendly AI' is developed in a place where democracy is firmly anchored. I suggest that the USA isn't one of these places. While the plunge into Fascism has leveled off to a glide down to oblivion, there is not system change in sight that will reverse the trend. 'Michio Kaku on Artificial Intelligence' on YouTube is equally clueless. He claims Moore's law will hit the limit in 20 years. I heard a lecture over at the Physics Dept. last month that points out that the limit has been reached. The take home lesson here is that YouTube is not a reliable source of information. Especially on any controversial topic, the only reliable source is the journals. dss David Stodolsky Skype: davidstodolsky Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=29703
