It was just an alternative obscure theory. It would be much more constructive to use standard accepted opinions of scientists to debunk peak oil. This is quite easy to do. My two favorite lines of reasoning are that we still have massive reserves of coal, and that we can easily ramp up nuclear. You will notice that many small nuclear power plants are in the planning stages in the US after decades of stagnation. What makes peak oil especially poor in my mind is that they also throw in conspiracy theories and financial models that most experts would strongly disagree with.
