Subject: Re: Digester Broken?

Messages 29897 - 29899 concern the recent "empty" CryoNet digests.
My initial reaction was:
   "It's not a bug. It's a feature!"
but while that reply makes developers happy, it generally leaves
users unsatisfied.

The clue is in the URL of the "Rate This Digest" line, which
encodes a non-empty range of messages even when the digest itself
does not contain any. If you click on that link, you will see all
the "missing" messages. Then if you scroll down to the bottom of
one of those messages, you will see red text that says:

Warning: This message was filtered from the daily CryoNet
digest because the poster's reputation was too low.
It thus may need to be rated.

As for the bug vs. feature, I think that CryoNet did the right thing
by issuing a digest to let everyone know that messages have arrived
that are ready to be rated. But since it is unexpected and confusing
when a digest does not include any messages, a brief explanation is
called for in that case. I'll add that soon.
