Subject: SAI-- C81-- ATP-- spurt

For the ininitated reader, this post is an update of
an ongoing situation involving the processing of C81
by SA. There is a particular aspect involving the use
of the air-transportable perfusion unit by relatively
untrained SA personnel that may have led to the
destruction of C81's brain. SA updated their case
report as seen below-- and Maxim-- an SA critic-- who
is a professional perfusionist makes reference to the
problem.

CryoNet appears to have been abondoned so most of this
debate is taking place in Cold Filter, linked below.

2. Washout.
The report contains an inaccuracy in its description
of procedures at the mortuary. It describes the
mortician finding blood spurting when he made an
incision in the femoral vein. This event actually
occurred when an incision was made in the femoral
artery (see source text below). Since the air
transportable perfusion (ATP) unit was not connected
to the patient until after blood was drained on the
venous side, active chest compressions and residual
diastolic pressure may have caused blood to spurt from
the arterial side.

The notion that residual pressure in the absence of
compressions could have caused the blood to spurt, is
totally, utterly and absolutely ridiculous. ... I
don't think we can really tell much about the
condition of CI-81's brain, based on the evidence SA
and/or CI have. There's far too much missing from the
SA report, and not much can be told from the small
burr holes, or the supposed presence of washout
solution in the vasculature of one side of the
patient's brain. What pressure was it delivered at?
would be an interesting question to have answered.

My comment--
Jerry Leaf's reports used to include the perfusion
pressure-- and were astonishingly more informative
than SA's.
