Subject: CRYONICS Alcor elections

Arguments are fewer this year, so I almost forgot to post something on
Alcor's annual election for the Board of Directors. The election will be
held as the first order of business at the September 11, 1994 Directors
meeting. The meeting will be at 1:00 p.m. in Alcor's offices at 7895 E.
Acoma Dr., Suite 110, Scottsdale AZ 85260-6916.

For those new to all of this, Alcor's Directors are elected annually by
the Directors themselves. Each Director may vote for up to nine candidates.
Directors may not give more than one vote to any candidate. Voting is by
secret ballot, with each Director's ballot made public after the votes have
been tabulated.

In 1992, three new Directors were elected. In 1993, two new Directors
were elected.

Current Directors are:
     Steve Bridge, President
     David Pizer, Vice President
     Ralph Whelan, Secretary
     Michael Riskin, Treasurer
     Fred Chamberlain III
     Keith Henson
     Hugh Hixon
     Carlos Mondragon
     Mark Voelker

As far as I am aware, all but one of these Directors are candidates for
the 1994 election. Fred Chamberlain has decided not to run this year.
Linda Chamberlain, Fred's wife and Alcor's first President, has announced
that she will run for the Board.

No other Alcor members have declared themselves as candidates so far.
If you are an Alcor suspension member and wish to run for election as a
Director, please notify me as soon as possible.

While the only Bylaws requirement for Directors is that they be fully
signed up Alcor suspension members, practical requirements for getting
elected are:

At least three years experience as a cryonicist.
Access to e-mail, since much of our business is handled that way.
Willingess to spend more time than you can imagine dealing with the
problems of an organization which uses a technology outside the
norms of American society and business.
Willingness to put the security of Alcor's patients foremost.
The ability to work with and communicate with a widely (and sometimes
"wildly") varied group of Directors, staff, and members.
