X-Message-Number: 29956 Date: Thu, 18 Oct 2007 08:46:40 -0700 (PDT) From: david pizer <> Subject: reply to Charles Platt' After I wrote my little piece on Cryonet yesterday about why I think Alcor may not last over the long haul because of the way they do not allow the suspension members to have a say, Charles posted this: CHARLES PLATT'S SAID: "While I am on cordial terms with David these days, and am pleased to see him endorsing the concept of accountability, I have to note that this is a remarkable change of outlook. I would be interested if he can explain what brought it about." PIZER SPEAKING NOW I do not want to explain and try to prove my conclusion that the present way Alcor directors have complete control and suspension members have little or none (except to leave). I recently had a two week debate with the board on this. After hearing what each board member had to say on the subject, I am convinced that no amount of logic will cause the present board to change the way they re-elect themselves, and any debate or discussion on this merely causes hard feelings. WHY I POSTED MY FIRST MESSAGE I read your earlier post and just thought that was a good time to go on record about what I thought. I don't have the desire to try to fight the battle to try to make any changes at present and I don't think any person can get the board to change this policy. I was mostly writing for the future readers 50 to 500 years from now. Anyhow, we will have to wait and see if any new cryonics companies start up in the next few decades and then see who was right. The present directors are at much at risk as I am as they probably won't be acting directors in 30 to 40 years when the risk to Alcor's survival with the present policy of "no-suspension member control" will increase. Who knows what directors of the future will do when cryonics may no longer be much needed and large amounts of money for the benefit of frozen dead people lay awaiting. The way I suggest those who agree with me may be able to increase their safety is to start their own individual suspension trust fund (as I have done) and put their money in that with instructions to use that money to move them if Alcor goes out of business in the future and to give it back to them if Alcor survives and they get reanimated. This is no guarantee but it is one more step that a person can take to try to survive death. Lastly I wish to emphasize that I don't wish Alcor or any director any harm, I am just stating what I believe is the actual situation. If someone wants to put up 5 million and start a new company I will be just as glad to give them my advice also. David Pizer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
