I agree that as a cryonicist we must casually share our own plans at death with friends and family. I go a step further by attending end of life workshops to present information, and be a spokesperson at conferences such as Calorie Restriction Society's, Transvision, World Future Society and such. I've 'signed' 4 people (personally), but given information and a years subscription to about 55 others. I have no idea who else from reading my piece in 'The Scientific Conquest of Death' or reading my book '21st Century Kids' may have signed. Hopefully any radio or T.V. interviews will inspire some to not only look into cryonics but to sign. The reason I see it as important is that it has a mathematical, scientific chance of working. I don't believe that it will work, as much as many other cryonicists--but the fact that it may work compels me to share it as an option. I would feel better some day if I get a vastly extended life --that I tried. Beyond that though I like to promote futurism and organ transplant research all of which I think would benefit our society now. I'm a mother of three young children, planning on having more--I love advancing them, watching them grow. I teach Sunday school at my Unitarian Universalist church (even taught futurist issues and cryonics to 75 kids, they all think it is 'cool' ;-) ! ) I run a LLL breastfeeding support group and help moms with that daily. I like to think that I'm helping the health and IQ of little ones I don't even know. I volunteer time and money to many social action projects to help in various ways to end inequality in this world. The list would be quite long for here... my point is that one does not have to have a Ph.D. to help in the world... although I'll be happy when my husband gets his in 3 more years because there will be one more cryonicist with a Ph.D. All are needed; moms, business men, church goers, young and old... for the cryonicist movement to build. We are a varied bunch already, from A.I. guys to Budhist monks... most who do speak out about their end of life arrangements. I thank them all, and encourage others to do the same. Alcor will give a free year's subscrition to its magazine if anyone is interested, I even had a mom of a kid in my Sunday school class want one! Alcor and CI have phenomenal sites with information to answer about any question--I first learned about cryonics on their sites when I was 19. Now at 32 I'm happy to have seen them grow over the years. I refer people there in interviews, or in person--all the time. Yes, at times I've had people laugh at me for being a cryonicist, but the one person out of 50 hardly detracts from the happiness I feel when someone is actually excited to hear and learn about cryonics. It may or may not work, but to me it is a reasonable chance--one that can be done in an affordable way, and even if reanimation does not occur, I know that I've helped science in other ways.
