I thought this was an excellent article...thanks for sharing the pointer, Mark Plus. Most of the players we know are here, portrayed in an uneven light, with the kind of skepticism one expects of this type publication. I was honked they didn't point out that cryonics is generally funded with life insurance, once again portraying cryonics as the exclusive baileywick of the rich hedge fund managers of the world. Dammit, please, when you get your "fifteen minutes of fame" about cryonics, folks, please get this important sound bite in, and make sure the reporter keeps it in. Aubrey gets a large part of the article, and in my opinion once again is the visionary voice of reason, correctly pointing out the obvious that ageing is a disease, just one that we all share. Why is this such a hard leap for even enormously gifted, educated, and highly educated people? The odds of us dying of an age related disease are probably higher than 80%, the odds of us dying in a terrorist attack are so miniscule as to be a fraction of 1%. Yet the US persists in a trillion dollar debacle called a "war on terrorism" while underfunding and overregulating antiaging research. This huge disconnect does not seem to be bothering anyone but a few of us "kooks" involved in antiaging. It bothers the hell out of me...and ought to bother the hell out of you. On a personal note, I FEEL the ageing process happening, at 50, this is no longer a theoretical or abstract issue...this is more of a desperately and embarrasingly personal war on entropy. Like many of us who care about these issues, I had kind of hoped these changes would be attenuated by diet and supplements and attitude. I can no longer be sanguine about the results of antiaging research filtering down in time. All in all, as good as popular press tends to get about cryonics and longevity research. Hope the article gets a wide audience, and generates continued obsession with scientific control of ageing and overcoming the tragedy of death. How did the rest of you feel about this article? Of course, in the larger context is always surprising how little even great press seems to matter re: cryonics signups. The National Geographic team did a nuanced, fair, and mostly positive hour long special on Cryonics, since shown multiple times, I believe, on the Learning Channel...and the cryonics signups showed barely a tiny bump... Sigh...
