Dr. Bob

They already have something like you suggested. The
savvy old members and discouraged new members call it
"lip service." Most (if not all) of the old time
members, and the new enthusiastic members who have
been around for at least a few years, realize that
this is worthless. Very few people show up at Alcor
Board meetings anymore because they have come to
realize that they are allowed no real power and their
suggestions and involvement is only good when it
happens to be the same thing the board members already
want.

Many good members have either quit, joined CI, or
resigned themselves to sit it out until some new
company opens up. For about every 2 or 3 new members
that join Alcor each year at least 1 person quits
Alcor. To me that shows that people are excited about
the idea of cryonics and then turned off when they see
that the company they have joined is run by a group of
people that have absolutely no accountability to
anyone except themselves. That's why membership
growth is so bad and why so many people are leaving,
and why Alcor has recently made some many errors, most
of them the membership will never know about since the
invention of the secret meeting became so popular with
Alcor Board members.

There is only one way to fix Alcor. That is to make
the people who make the ultimate decisions for Alcor
(The Directors) be accountable to the membership for
their decisions.

The only way to cause the directors to be accountable
is to make those leaders stand for re-election each
year, so that the membership can replace those who are
not doing the job and put in new blood with new
enthusiasm and new ideas from time to time. Those
directors who continually vote for things that cause
problems show they don't have the proper judgement to
run Alcor and the members replace them.

Otherwise Alcor is doomed to continued mediocre
results, and possible failure once a new similar
company opens and starts to compete.

It is really ironic and a terrible shame that we
Alcorians are a part of the greatest idea yet to
befall the human race and we are held prisoners or a
group of selfish, egotistical, control-freak people
who refuse to give the power to the members which
would cause the needed changes where the decisions
makers become accountable and therefor Alcor can begin
to grow and prosper.

It is sad to think how great Alcor could have been by
now, how large and how advanced, they could have been
if they had a system to cause the directors to be
accountable and therefore had avoided all the mistakes
and second-rate results the present system has caused.

Alcor: "Greatest idea yet known to mankind, being run
by worst management system known to mankind."
