It is incorrect to characterized the Federal Government today as a  
"democratic system". See for example, Post-democracy by Collin Crouch,  
a thin volume well worth a read. The 'vote' that counts in DC is the  
vote of big money.

Another point, neither the Federal Government nor what is being  
proposed is democracy. Both are republican systems of governance, that  
may or may not reflect the interests of the voters.

PS: A major claim being made by David Pizer is that membership has  
suffered as a result of the current governance arrangements at ALCOR.  
I got info from CI and was able to graph current and future growth for  
them. I never received any info from ALCOR. Such info could throw  
light on this controversy. It might allow determination of when  
problems started, assuming they have, and be used to predict what  
changes would be most likely to resolve them. In any case, a useful  
data point for this discussion might be an explanation of why that  
statistical data was never forwarded.
