X-Message-Number: 30281 Date: Wed, 9 Jan 2008 12:01:04 -0700 Subject: Someone is trying to censor Dave Pizer From: (Tim Freeman) I saw that Dave Pizer's recent cryonet post, number 30278, was blocked with REPUTATION TOO LOW. I went back and looked at some of his past messages and their ratings. If the ratings of hist messages were really statements about the messages, I would expect the ratings for each message to cluster near the average rating for that message. Instead for many of the posts we have one claim of abuse or flamebait and everything else is good. Posts 30266, 30265, 30262, and 30269 are a few examples of this. There are more. To look at the details, visit http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi and type a message number into the form. To find more examples, do this query: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/search.cgi?sort=new&sstr=pizerdavid I think one person went through and rated many of Pizer's posts as abuse, without regard to their spamminess, because they felt uncomfortable with his content. I went and submitted opinions for some of Pizer's more interesting posts. If other cryonet readers feel Pizer is saying something interesting, they might want to express their opinion with the rating system, since otherwise he will probably be censored. It takes, on the average, two "Excellent" ratings per "Abuse" to keep someone's reputation high enough so he can post. I don't know whether his next post will go through. That depends on his reputation, which I don't know, and on the algorithm, which is documented at http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/reputation.cgi?help=y. -- Tim Freeman http://www.fungible.com Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=30281
