X-Message-Number: 30283 Date: Wed, 09 Jan 2008 21:45:33 -0500 From: "Kevin Q. Brown" <> Subject: CryoNet ratings and reputation system David, Tim Freeman already answered most of your questions in his message "Someone is trying to censor Dave Pizer". I can give some background and a few pointers, though. The CryoNet rating system was created to help constrain spam from people who subscribe to CryoNet. (CryoNet just ignores messages from addresses that are not subscribed.) This runs without my intervention. Any CryoNet subscriber can rate messages. See: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/ratercode.cgi Tim's message suggests that a rater is "gaming" the system. Message # 27165 ("ratings, risks, and redemption"): http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/dsp.cgi?msg=27165 provides some more perspective on "gaming" the system. Note that the reputation system just determines what is included in the daily digest, not what is included in the archives. Your message #30278 "Re: Dave Pizer" is in the archives at: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/dsp.cgi?msg=30278 even though it was filtered from the latest digest. For yet more information on the rating and reputation system, see the message "CryoNet Information for New Subscribers" at: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/dsp.cgi?msg=0 which has a section on "MESSAGE RATINGS" that includes URLs for more details.
