Subject: To Kevin Brown: "Abuse" and Spam

Everybody on CryoNet who sticks a foot into the water, probably feels
"abused" at some point in time, but as I understand it, that is not
supposed to be the purpose of the "Abuse" rating for a post. As stated,
it is supposed to apply to "spam" as exemplified by only about 2 or 3
former CryoNet posters who bombarded us with repetitious posts linking to
their own dubious endeavors.

That may not be clear to many CryoNet members who choose to rate posts,
and they may not understand that it carries the heaviest penalty of all,
enough possibly for only one or two such ratings to effectively censor a
poster. It also leaves it way too easy for someone with an agenda to
intentionally attempt to banish a poster, as Tim mentioned may have
happened to Dave Pizer.

I would recommend that the heavily weighted "Abuse" rating be reserved
for the list owner, to be used entirely for spam control, as part of an
ordinary list administrator's duties, rather than being given to any and
everybody to misuse whether intentionally or not.

Thanks for considering,

Flav
