I for one do not think that the > fundamental problem is just that the laws need to be amended. Since recent changes in the law in The Netherlands make it possible for a doctor to assist a patient to die without fear of prosecution, changes in the law do seem to be one way to solve the problem. However, the political framework in which this compromise was possible was one dominated by social welfare thinking (Social Democrats are the leading party in the current government). Some would argue that The Netherlands is the leading social welfare state in the world. It certainly is among the leaders. So, if we look at the evidence, it does not support the idea that Libertarian thinking is essential for achieving a favorable climate for cryonics. Certainly, it is not the only philosophy capable of producing a favorable climate. So, Libertarian materials sent to this list run the risk of alienating people and damaging the development of cryonics. David S. Stodolsky, PhD Internet: Peder Lykkes Vej 8, 4. tv.
