Subject: Better Info than from Riskin, on Alcor Management Salaries

Content-Disposition: inline

This is a followup to my CryoNet posts #30258 and #30280.

Below, from Alcor's 2006 IRS Form 990, were the salaries that year of:

Tanya Jones - $61,019

Steve Van Sickle - $62,670

There are two versions of Alcor's IRS Form 990 for 2006, online.

The one at: http://www.alcor.org/Library/index.html#alcorfoundation
has the Schedule B with name and address information blacked out, and also
later in the file the addresses of the board members blacked out.

The one at: http://www.guidestar.org/

omits the Schedule B altogether, but has the addresses of the board members.

Both have the salary information I quote above.

And so what will we find when the 2007 Form 990 comes out, probably about a
year from now, since Alcor intentionally procrastinates in filing it, every
year? Will Alcor management salaries be in the 6-digit range yet? Do they
try to keep such information a big secret because they are afraid Alcor
members will think these people make too much of the money they pay and
donate?

Riskin wouldn't tell. My requests to Riskin were not met in a totally
forthcoming manner. One has to wonder why he did not simply provide the
information as requested, knowing that it would come out before long. Is it
a symptom of a power trip he is on, in his position as top leader of the
board, that he thinks he does not have to answer anything that he does not
want to, and he immaturely gets his kicks by ignoring the request? Is it a
symptom of even deeper and worse problems within the Alcor Board?

And what about Jones and Van Sickle? We know they read CryoNet and Cold
Filter, and my posts on this were both places. Are they afraid for their
jobs if they tell us what they make? Or are they also part of the "big
secret" power trip exemplified by the board president?

And then there is the question of Jennifer Chapman. I've heard she is also
now in management. If she is, her salary information does not appear in the
990s for technical reasons. What did she earn in 2006 and 2007?

It would seem to me that if the Alcor Board wants to justify their
self-perpetuating positions, they would, since they are coming under
increasing heat to relinquish that, at least start a new policy of more
openness with their members and the public. Sadly, it appears that they
think they are untouchable. They are going to be in for a big surprise.
