(There was a study done at Berkeley a way back, I couldn't just now find with a quick search, but it always stuck with me-- that showed a higher quality of content, when people use their real names. Amazon even instituted their Real Name program, to increase the quality of reviews). Here is a great piece that includes a court's ruling, and various issues in society, with many additional links to follow on the issue: http://civilities.net/ScalesOfDiscourse-AnonCred There are many cryonicists that use their real names, and in this community along with others I partake in, I also give more credence to the views given by people using their real names. I think it is good for those looking into cryonics, and those concerned about the health and longevity of the current companies, pretty much a credibility issue. I do understand that some have good things to contribute, such as their interpretations of law--and may have legitimate concerns about their job depending on what field they are in. I know one cryonicst who works in T.V., and uses a pseudonym on-line, but will say who he is to people individually whom he knows. He has also told his work about being a cryonicist, to make sure if it came out he is covered under his contract. In cases like that, is quite reasonable to keep a pseudonym, and he does much to support the cryonics community. So, I think that is where Steve says, the vouching of a fake name, comes in--but there has to be accountability. I would also support a real name policy, or a moderator that checks people's reasons or intent for being here, privately.
