X-Message-Number: 30655 From: (Melody Maxim) Subject: CI-81 and SA Date: Thu, 27 Mar 2008 14:30:56 +0000 With all due respect, I am not going to go another round of arguing with Ben about CI-81, other than this brief statement: I agree that the patient initially benefitted by being placed in an ice bath and receiving chest compressions, but any volunteer could have done those things. I estimate the annual cost of these three people to be over $200K, and it's my very strong opinion that, if SA is going to pay salaries that high, they should hire qualified medical professionals. I am educated, and vastly experienced, in the field of perfusion technology, and having worked with the three SA team members, I don't believe any of them were capable of performing whole body perfusion, without causing harm. My interpretation of the SA report and addendum indicates any benefit the patient received from the initial cooling and chest compressions were negated the moment the ATP was turned on. I think any other perfusionist would interpret the SA reports the same as I have. I believe Ben once wrote that it could be "dangerous" to overpay cryonics personnel; I think he should consider that notion a little more thoroughly, when dealing with the people associated with SA. If SA would use their generous budget to hire qualified personnel, there would be nothing to question about SA's performance at CI-81's bedside.
