I sent an email to David Pizer's bank (the M & I Bank) asking whether they
can accept a personal check (cheque) from Australia. To my great surprise
their answer is 'Yes'. I will cut and paste their email below:

Dear Chris,

Thank you for contacting M&I Bank today.

Please know that our customer is able to deposit a check that is drawn off
of an Australian financial institution. We have confirmed with our Foreign
Exchange department that there are no fees for processing the conversion. I
hope that this information is helpful.

We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to assist you with this matter
today. If you have any additional questions, you may e-mail M&I Direct at
Alternately, feel free to contact M&I Direct toll-free
at 1-888-464-5463, 24 hours a day. We hope you found the information
helpful.

Sincerely,

Jim Johnson

[A statement of their privacy policy followed.]

Of course I was only asking about cheques from Australia so donors in other
countries may need to make their own inquiry. I will send off a cheque
today.
