Since it makes such a mess of brains, cryonicists have been concerned 
about prion diseases for a long time.

What has never exactly been clear is what purpose the prion protean 
serves in the brain.

I wonder it if is not involved with the formation and maintenance of 
memory?  A shifting conformation molecule might make sense for this 
application.
