The Cryonics Institute does not REQUIRE explicit permission
of your next-of-kin when arrangements are being made, but it
is highly RECOMMENDED to attempt to get such permission -- or
an agreement not to attempt to interfere. It would be dangerous
to not discuss the subject with next-of-kin -- as some people
would be inclined to do. Serious problems can arise when
next-of-kin only discover the cryonics arrangements at the
time of deanimation or when the patient is terminal.

The Cryonics Institute relies on the legal decedent
having the right to determine what is done with their
own remains -- above that of next-of-kin. Every effort
should be made, however, to ensure next-of-kin are
sufficiently warned ahead of time and are accustomed to
the idea of the arrangements that have been made --
even if they don't agree with them.
