X-Message-Number: 31100 From: "John de Rivaz" <> Subject: Transplanted frozen liver raises hopes of organ 'bank' - New ... Date: Mon, 6 Oct 2008 15:36:14 +0100 Transplanted frozen liver raises hopes of organ 'bank' is the title on the web page http://www.newscientist.com/channel/health/mg20026764.000-transplanted-frozen-liver-raises-hopes-of-organ-bank.html This said a pig's liver was kept at -20C for half an hour and then warmed and re-implanted in another pig and shown to work before the second pig was exterminated and the liver dissected and cells were shown to be alive. I am very dubious about the scientific value of this demonstration (although I am no expert). I see parallels with http://www.newscientist.com/channel/opinion/death/mg15120492.900-technology--frozen-heart-comes-to-life.html where the same magazine trumpeted Olga Michelle Visser's demonstrations. only to be followed by http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/dsp.cgi?msg=16561 whose author said " I can say with ease that in my 30 plus years of involvement in science I have never personally seen so clear-cut and unambiguous a case of fraud." Also see http://www.cryocare.org/index.cgi?subdir=ccrpt10&url=visser.html The most recent experiment may well be done with the most honest of intentions, but nevertheless the flaws look similar. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Content-Type: text/html; [ AUTOMATICALLY SKIPPING HTML ENCODING! ] Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=31100
