Date: Sat, 11 Oct 2008 08:50:08 -0700 A year ago, someone who predicted that in 12 months the Dow would lose 40 percent of its value and Congress and a Republican Administration would give the Treasury Secretary the money and authority to start nationalizing American banks like a Latin American socialist caudillo would have had to endure taunts about "The sky is falling!" It amazes me how quickly the previously "unthinkable" has become normalized. "Around 2010 the world will be at a new orbit in history. . . Life expectancy will be indefinite. Disease and disability will nonexist. Death wll be rare and accidental -- but not permanent. We will continuously jettison our obsolescence and grow younger." F.M. Esfandiary, "Up-Wing Priorities" (1981). Mark Plus _________________________________________________________________ Get more out of the Web.
