I need to point out that others can learn a lesson from this. One way she could have survived would have been to live in one of the 5 states that allow a person to designate who is to be responsible for the disposition of their body. I know Oregon is one, but I don't know the others off hand. In Oregon, it is written into our statutes that a person can assign anyone at all to have this responsibility. Regardless of how hostile the next of kin are, that is one area where a deceased person in Oregon still clearly has rights. An example form is also included in our statutes, and the hospitals and nursing homes are aware of this. Makes things much easier.
