Subject: "bible commands cryonics" vs "not forbid it"

I informed a friend of mine who is a chaplain that some cryonicists were
quoting scripture in support of cryonics. Here is his position on the
subject:

"I certainly think it is in YOUR best interest to have a link that says for more
on how various faith traditions weigh in click here and have radial buttons
that list the various religions and their views."

A chaplain/website-designer. Nice.

Well, while it is nice to have at least a lucid response to my exhortations, and
one that more or less speaks cogently to some of the relevant issues, I think
that this chaplain is dead wrong. The "progressive" religious adherents are NOT
the market. It is the hardcore fundie protestants that would be the market. For
one, there are far far more of them. Two, they are much more likely to do as the
bible commands, at least they might if you point it out to them repeatedly, and
if it is in their best interests. Living forever is in one's best interests.

I have supplied what I believe is ample evidence that the bible does indeed
command us to be good cryonicists. The chaplain's response does not address this
issue, however.

"I would go ahead and let the fundamentalist kooks lambast it. I mean,
really, if some biblical-literalist says if you do this you will burn in
hell, what difference will that make? The people who are pre-disposed to
cyronics will do what they want regardless of what some religious leader

says. Also, if you are Southern Baptist or Pentecostal, you are not likely to
do it anyway if you are firm in your convictions. On the other hand, if you
have someone who grew up in one of those traditions and no longer practices that
faith, he/she may read the writings and be reminded that is why they no longer
practice that tradition."

Dead wrong. I have already pointed this out above. This issue is really all
about the bible. The immortalist bible, the immortalist Jesus. And cryonics is
all about immortalism, and cryonics is fully supported by Bible verses. Just not
"not forbidden" by Bible verses, but supported and indeed COMMANDED by bible
verses. Cryonics should therefore be fully in the realm of protestant
fundamentalism.

Trust me--I grew up as a fundie. I have PREACHED before congregations as a
fundie. Listened to many sermons. Even written some. And I still often watch TV
preachers, even though I am now an atheist. But from my considerable experience,
I can promise you this--immortal life (immortalism!) is not just some side show
aspect of protestant christianity, but instead is a central aspect of it.
