You could try downloading < http://www.cryonics-europe.org/r5l.wma > and playing it in an audio media player that accepts wma files. It is not a video file, only audio. Better would be to download a windows media codec for your browser. The problem with stating that such and such a media file is not a universal format is that the web had been around for over a decade and must contain a lot of files in some once popular format. It is not going to be practical to re-code them every few months to the latest standard. YouTube uses flv files, and guess what, they don't play on TV media players, and have to be converted to something else, usually wmv, vob or mpg. The conversion program has a small financial cost, but more importantly each time a file is converted to or from the latest system it loses some fidelity. The solution should be that historic codecs are available for download to web browsers. They are for more flexible than tv media players and can be upgraded to play both the latest and the oldest coding ideas. This does have an important relevance to cryonics above merely listening to current broadcasts. If people are revived, they will probably want and indeed need to see items they have recorded on disc or put on the web. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more ----- Original Message ----- "Requires ActiveX!!??! Aargh! Is there some more universal format you can make it available in? MP4, say? Or upload it to YouTube or Google Video or *someplace* that doesn't use ActiveX? Pretty please?
