X-Message-Number: 31739 From: "John de Rivaz" <> References: <> Subject: Re: Cryonic Communities Date: Fri, 12 Jun 2009 12:06:08 +0100 Thomas Klauset Aurdal writes of an email to the Cryonics Society not being answered. Email is a wonderful resource, but it was developed for use by intelligent and honourable people. Now so many silly and dishonourable people use it to advertise worthless services that it has become unreliable. However if a message has not been answered, you can simply send it again and add a forenote saying something to the effect that either this message or your reply did not get through. Obviously if the person the other end knows you and does not want to reply then they still won't, but in the case of a new enquiry to CS this is unlikely to be the case. Ironically the Internet provides an ideal search tool for people wanting specific goods and services, so demand is need-lead rather than vendor-lead. Maybe it is the shake out of spurious economic activity that has caused the economic downturn, but a leaner more efficient economy will result. Dr Stodolsky writes >>> It isn't realistic to expect people to move to some location where they can find other cryonicists. Most people have jobs, friends, family, etc. that they can't very easily leave. Therefore, the model I suggested of forming supportive groups as part of a recruitment process is probably more likely to work. It also overcomes the economic limitations that face a vast majority of the World's population. <<< I 100% agree, but unfortunately this isn't at all easy! Ultimately, though, it strengthens the entire movement in instances were it is successful, far more than forming a single facility. Concentrating all cryonicists in one place and/or in one legislature makes them vulnerable to physical or legal violence by those fanatically opposed to them. -- Sincerely, John de Rivaz: http://John.deRivaz.com for websites including Cryonics Europe, Longevity Report, The Venturists, Porthtowan, Alec Harley Reeves - inventor, Arthur Bowker - potter, de Rivaz genealogy, Nomad .. and more Rate This Message: http://www.cryonet.org/cgi-bin/rate.cgi?msg=31739
