What is it going to take to convince people that political and social
questions must receive a higher priority? Any industry that is serious
about expanding hires professionals to handle its public relations.
Some years ago, I put up a web site for what could have become a
cryonics self-regulation and accreditation organization. That received
no support whatsoever.

An independent body that could speak for the Industry is essential in
this type of situation. A representative from ALCOR will be seen to be
as partial to that organization and thus anything they say will be
discounted as biased. On the other hand, a person representing the
Industry as a whole, while being seen as partial to cryonics, could be
seen as impartial when it comes to defense of a particular
organization. That person could even thank opponents for criticism and
suggest that a revision of accreditation procedures should be
undertaken to ensure the current problem would not reoccur, etc.

In the richer countries, the amount of money typically spent on
funerals, end-of-life medical care, etc. exceeds the cost of an
acceptable suspension. Therefore, a change in attitudes toward
suspension is the key to Industry growth, political stability, etc.
My reanalysis of the Badger data clearly points out the way to go to
accomplish this. The only question now is whether we are going to be
proactive on these issues or do we have to wait for another Dora Kent
like disaster, which will threaten the very existence of the Industry
and that of the members, both animate and inanimate.
