I am posting this to the Cryonics Society of Canada yahoogroups and to Cryonet.
I am hoping for some assistance in this.

Thank you

Hello Rachell.
I am more than happy to help you in any way I can.
For a client to undergo cryopreservation, he or she must first be legally

pronounced dead. Issues of privacy aside, one of the challenges would certainly
be being able to predict when that may happen. In the grand scheme of things,
months can go by before this happens. It is possible that Alcor or CI already
have footage that they may be willing to share, of previous cryopreservations.
I, of course cannot speak for them, so I will leave it up to them as to what
they can provide, or cannot. Perhaps a tour of a facility may be helpful.

The Cryonics Society of Canada has a yahoogroups page. Perhaps I can post this
message on that site, and see if there is anyone out there who would like to
speak with you. Perhaps there is someone out there who is very ill, and
anticipating cryopreservation in the near future. I can also post this message
on cryonet, which is another communication tool out of the US.

I am at work right now, so I will be able to better respond to this message this
evening. I just wanted to provide you with a prompt response.

Hello Christine,
Thanks so much for getting back to me and for all the great information! I
certainly appreciate you clearing up the cryonics vs cryogenics for me, it can
be hard to follow when doing internet research. I had suspected that the
majority of the facilities were in the US and that is good to have confirmed.

I've found that being that it's such an interesting topic everyone is writing a
little about cryonics but few actually know much. It seems to be a small field

and so much of it is really still passed word of mouth & through organizations
like yours. And I really appreciate your willingness to educate and talk with
me.

As I mentioned, in looking for a way to include cryonics in our television show
we need to find a way to tell the information in a visually active and

entertaining story. You can probably imagine, that requires a little more access
than general. My colleague has been in touch with Alcor and CI and they have

been very helpful and are open to working with us but being that you are in the
know, it would be extremely helpful if I could pick your brain a little bit as
well.

Of course the first thing our executives asked was, can we see someone being
suspended, in the suspended state or what of the process can we SEE. I

understand that the logistics of that are extremely complicated, one because the
suspension needs to as close to the time of death as possible. But also while
Alcor and CI are open to working with us, there are limitations they have -
namely in keeping client/patient information confidential. And we totally
respect that.

This is a personal decision, I understand that many people may want to keep it
private. However, there seem to also be those who are open with their choice
and want to educate others. Being that CSC may be privy to some of the who's
who in cryonic clients in Canada, I was wondering if there is any way that a

message could be sent out to clients who might be interested in sharing with the
Discovery audience and then they could get in touch with us. This way the
choice is all theirs and privacy is still respected.

If this is something you think your organization would be willing to do, then I
will need to have a conversation with my producers to find out exactly what we

might be looking for. (though, I'm sure they'll at least ask if there is anyone
close to persevered who would be willing to share).

Other than that option, other inquiries I have are if someone comes to your

organization expressing interest in cryonics, what kind of support can you offer
them? Is there a program or info session available? If this happens, do the
prospectives generally have a lot of technical questions on the suspension? I
guess, what I am thinking of is similar to buying a house - if I am interested

in buying a house, I will not only want a detailed tour of the place, the costs

and a detailed explanation of the all legal transfer of title & responsibly the
purchase. Do you know if a similar process exists for cryonics?

And how are teams trained for cryonic preservation? Can you explain what kind
of program they go through? Do they generally have medical training? Or do
their doctors need to go through training? Is there any training going on in
Canada?

Again we are looking for any way to tell the story in a visually active way. And

if you have any suggestions being that you know the subject far more intimately,
we would be love to hear it.

Thanks so much for your time and I hope I have not overstepped on your offer to
help.

Cheers ~rachell

Hello Ms Cain
My name is Christine Gaspar. I am the president of the Cryonics Society of
Canada. I would be happy to offer you any assistance you need on this subject.

I would like to start first by letting you know that it is actually cryonics,
not cryogenics. I know that it is a very common error in the media to not know
the difference. Cryonics is the preservation of humans at extremely low

temperatures in the hopes that future medical technology may have the ability to
repair and restore the person to health. Cryogenics is the science or study of
very low temperatures, used for example in the manufacture of materials, etc.

As far as I know, there are two facilities in the US that offer cryonics
suspensions and storage. They are Alcor Life Extension Foundation and The
Cryonics Institute. Suspended Animation is a third company in the US that
recently started up. They do not offer storage capability, but are instead
focused on providing suspension services for clients of Alcor or the Cryonics

Institute who opt for their services. I do not know very much about KrioRus, but
I believe that outside of the US, they are the only organization that offers
cryonic storage. Alcor has a branch in the UK of members that train to provide

suspension services, but the intent is to have the ``patient`` shipped to the US
for storage. There are active cryonics groups all over the world, some more
active than others. There aren`t more storage facilities yet, because frankly,
there aren`t yet enough people signed up for cryonic suspension to make that
feasible. Of course it is a tangible goal to be able to open more facilites

outside of the US, but for now, that remains a long term goal, and an early work
in process.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have further questions. Responding

to media queries, and interviews are an integral way that we educate the public
on our practices, and I for one consider that a very important factor in the
future growth of this field.

Sincerely,
Christine Gaspar
President, Cryonics Society Of Canada.

Hello,
I hope this email finds you well. I'm a documentary associate producer working
on a Discovery Channel science series called "Curiosity: The Questions of

Life." In One of our episodes explores the issues of immortality and I am doing
some research into Cryogenics. I have been searching online for some

international cryonics service providers but am not having a lot of luck beyond
KrioRus. I am wondering if that is the only one out there? And on a personal
inquire if, so why are there not more?

Thanks so much for your time.
