Subject: Re: SUPPORT software, predicting death

This software is obviously particularly important in Oregon itself, with
residents there who expect to live 6 months or less now able to ask their
doctor for a fatal dose of barbiturates (see The Economist, Nov 26 1994).

It raises further questions:

1) Would this help avoid unnecessary brain deterioration in the
terminally ill who wish to be suspended?

2) Can we get similar legislation in other states/countries?
(Doctor-assisted suicide is also available in Holland.)

3) Should we consider setting up facilities in Oregon, including
residential considerations for people to move there long enough to
qualify as residents and then in effect choose their time and place of
suspension?

4) What disadvantages are there to using barbiturates for this process?

5) What alternatives would be preferable, and why?

appropriate Cryomsg!

Always optimistically,

Robin
